Volcano poem

LI: To write a multi verse cinquain poem that describes the journey of a sleeping maunga that erupts

We have been exploring cinquain poems. A conquain poem. A cinquain poem has 5 lines. Each line has a different purpose. Line 1 is a noun which is a name. Line 2 has 2 adjectives taht describe the noun. Line 3 has 3 verbs that end in ‘ing’ and describe the actions. Line 4 is a noun phrase which is a group of words (not a sentence) that go together to describe the noun. Line 5 is a synonym which is a word with a similar meaning to the noun.

We used our poem to show our understanding of volcanoes.

Something I found interesting about this was that Rangitoto had erupted 600 hundred years ago

Pourquoi story – why Maungerei sleeps

For this task I created a Pourquoi story to tell us why does Maungerei sleeps. This is my story why Maungerei sleeps.

Back, far back, in the mists of time when the world was very young there was a mountain named  Maungarei, . She was beautiful to look at but known by all for her really bad temper. She woke up. As she was angry at the dinosaurs when they were dancing. Then the ground started  shaking, Maungarei had!! “Erupted, said nefai”. Her anger was seen by all, a violent explosion with an ash cloud shaped like a mushroom. As soon as Maungarei was still mad, all the other Mountains and dinosaurs were so scared that they needed to take cover .

After hours had passed, Maungarei had a wish from one of the gods that she had used it on. To come herself down as she was. Tired of  what she caused. She slowly fell asleep and  other volcanoes were coming closer but not too close so Maungarei didn’t wake up and get’s mad again.

Over time Moungari is resting the land that used  to be pretty. But after the eruptions it is just like lava everywhere. The lava is still cooling down but as Moungari still has ashes coming out they forgive her apologies and let her sleep in peace.

Mounragi rage is at the bottom of her heart. People around her are at peace but her eyes remain closed but we should all remember her heart still beats and her apologies that she said to them.

Years have passed and Maungarei is surrounded by houses. After all this she is still sleeping. But you might not know that she can erupt again.

Volcano Animation

Last week Wednesday LS2 created a volcano animation. We had to get into pairs of group of 2 or group of 4 for this task to proceed. We used our smart tracing skills to make an animation of how a volcano erupts, we used the tracing lines polyline and curve line.

I enjoyed this task because we used Google slides to show an animation,I found this task interesting because we used a unique way to show how a volcano erupts.

ANZAC Poppy

Last Week for our reading we learned about poppy’s. We had to research about poppy’s and we had to go in groups for this research. We had a piece of newsprint paper and had to write down the ideas that we were gonna research about. When we finished we made a Google Slides telling us about Poppy’s.

When we finished our Poppy Research we had to present our research about poppy’s. When we finished presenting our teacher gave us some feedback just to practice what we needed to do when we were presenting. here was some  feedback be more conference when presenting

Time Traveller’s Podcast ft Samuel Marsden

For Literacy we have been using our Inquiry knowledge to help us write questions that we might have asked Reverend Samuel Marsden had we had the chance to meet him and talk to him. This was a fun activity because we took on the roles of Samuel Marsden and the Time Traveller’s Podcast team. It was like we experienced actually meeting him.

We learned that when you are recording a podcast expression is everything! It makes what we have to say more engaging.

The Kuaka

LI: To create an infographic that tells others about the migration of the kuaka

Something interesting I found out about the Kuaka was Birds soar by spreading their wings and using the wind to help lift them up in the sky. They can glide on air currents without flapping their wings too much. This makes it easier for them to fly high and far.
