In reading, my group created a DLO about different types of characters and how mood and atmosphere are used in The Boy in the Striped Pyjamas. We explained the difference between protagonists and antagonists, as well as round and flat characters. We also explored how mood and atmosphere affect the way readers feel during important parts of the story.
While working on this task, we used examples from the text to explain our ideas more clearly. It was interesting learning how different characters have different roles in a story and how the atmosphere can make scenes feel tense, emotional, or uncomfortable.
This activity helped me understand how authors use characters and setting to shape the mood of a story and create stronger emotions.
Today In ls2 We made a Mood-O-Meter it was really fun doing the honestly, Me and my partner ‘Romeo’ contributed to this masterpiece we made it look like a hacking theme it goes really well with the colours and makes them stand out we used polyline to make the lines that go up and down, and used a AI image to show what shmuel had to go through it wasn’t that hard it was kind of easy. Thanks for reading my Blurb for This blog.
Today for Reading, LS2 created images using Nano banana AI of contrasts of the story ” The boy in the stripped PJs”. Contrast means basically two things having a difference towards each other. My first slide is of a boy named Bruno and another boy named Shmuel. Bruno is very full of life with similarities with Shmuel sharing a birthday but Shmuel is Jewish whilst Bruno is German. Shmuel is a boy wearing stripped PJs with a shaved head at a concentration camp. The second slide is of two houses that contrast because of one of the houses being a three story with a grey no emotion vibe and the other house being a five story house with emotion and is filled with color and life.
LI: To use Ai to create a image that shows the contrast between the characters.
Our task was to make a DLO about what the definition on what Contrast, We were also challenged to generate a image that shows the contrast between the two boys or all of the contrast in the book the Boy In Stripped Pajamas. One thing that I liked about this task is that we could expiament with our blurb to generate the image that shows the Contrast.
Mrs Anderson read us the book ‘First Flight’ by June Crebbin. We talked about the narrators point of view and used a Gemini Gem to prompt us to think more deeply about what the story might look like when told in the first person.I enjoyed using the Gem because it helped me
This term, we went on a trip to the Panmure Basin. We saw many amazing views, but the new bridge at the basin was especially stunning. When we returned, we created a drawing DLO of the bridge. I used a photograph as a reference and traced it using the curve tools. I really enjoyed this activity because it was fun and helped me improve my drawing skills.
After the basin walk, our teachers Challange us to make a Moko Ika Hiku Waru ( Taniwha ) art. We were also told to work in two’s so we could show collaboration and effort into our work. Moko Ika Hiku Waru was a Maori traditional guardian of the lakes and we all know that he dormanted under the bridge. So we worked hard on this art project with adding the details. We also added the information about the Taniwha.
LI: To understand we make judgements based on stereotyping, assumptions and prejudices
Today we went over a story called “Bok Choy for Reading.” The story talked about how Chinese immigrants, like Ah Sum, were treated badly and unfairly judged in New Zealand a long time ago. It showed that many people didn’t see Chinese immigrants as equals and often had negative ideas about them just because they looked different or came from a different culture. The story also taught us that it’s important to understand and care about people who are different from us, even if we don’t fully understand their situation. Showing kindness and empathy is the right thing to do.
After reading the story, our task was to write a letter to Ah Sum to thank him properly. When we visited him in his hut, we didn’t have the right words to express how grateful we were, so now we need to take the time to say it the right way. This exercise made us think about how important it is to be respectful and thoughtful when talking to others, especially those who might have helped us or who are going through tough times.
What I found most interesting about the story is how it revealed that even though a long time has passed, there are still challenges and unfair treatment faced by people who are different, especially because of their race or background. It shows that racism and prejudice are still problems today, not just in the past. The story made me think about how important it is to treat everyone equally and to stand up against unfairness whenever we see it. It reminded me that kindness, understanding, and empathy are needed now just as much as they were back then.
LI: To vary our sentence lengths to create pace and impact.
For this challege, we’ve read “The Boy in the Striped Pajamas”. So my parther and I worked on a letter to Bruno’s ( main character in the book I) . We first had to write the text into a Google Doc that our teacher provided us.
Our important challenge was to add FANBOYS to connect ideas in our letter to make sense and to make more contrast, emotion, and more words and sentences. We had to practice and learn our simple, complex and compound sentences to make our writing sound realistic we also used AWHITEBUS.
